LANDSCAPE DESIGN: A/1000 DATE: 6/29/2025

Overall Site Plan
This landscape is designed to feel like a timeless farmstead, carefully placed within a wooded setting. Within the cleared areas around your home, we are maximizing the usable lawn space while preserving the property’s natural wooded character.
The open areas in both the front and back yards will be seeded to create generous stretches of lawn for everyday use, dog runs, entertaining, or just enjoying the outdoors. The property will feel clean and open, but still nestled within the surrounding woods, maintaining that sense of privacy and place.
Along the natural ravine that runs beside the driveway, we will stabilize the slope with large boulders and strategic plantings. Low growing cotoneaster and creeping juniper will help hold the soil in place while softening the grade and blending into the natural surroundings.
I have also designed a clear separation between public and private access. A dedicated parking area near the front of the property gives delivery drivers and guests a place to turn around or park without entering the private motor court. This also gives you the flexibility to gate the motor court in the future for added privacy.
To further enhance the woodland edge, we willl start by seeding lawn across the cleared space and into the trees. Over time, it will become clear where grass thrives and where it struggles, especially in shaded or transitional areas. Those spots can naturally evolve into woodland plantings with tough, beautiful species like viburnum and forsythia, adding color, texture, and seasonal interest at the edge of the lawn.

Entry Bridge
The entry experience begins with a striking, custom designed bridge that blends timeless materials with thoughtful details. On either side facing the street, we will construct dry stacked Indiana limestone walls with smooth limestone caps. These capped walls will be softly illuminated with integrated under cap lighting, creating a warm, welcoming glow in the evening while also offering a perfect place to highlight your address number “8300” for visibility and style.
The bridge surface will feature a manufactured cobblestone paver, selected not just for its classic aesthetic but also for the subtle tire “rumble” it provides as you cross, adding a tactile and sensory detail to the arrival experience.
A 6×8 limestone curb will run along both sides of the bridge, offering a clean edge and elevated visual interest. On either side of the bridge, large sandstone boulder headwalls will be used to retain the surrounding grade elevating the bridge structure and reinforcing a natural, grounded feel while easing the slope transitions.

Front Landscape
The front landscape is designed for simple, timeless beauty with year round structure and a bold presence from the street. Since your home sits well back from the road, we should use larger, more impactful mass plantings to ensure the front beds look impressive from a distance and welcoming as you approach.
A low, easy-to-maintain evergreen hedge using either Buxus ‘Green Gem’ or Thuja ‘Tom Thumb’ forms a neat, structured border closest to the lawn. Behind that, I have layered in flowering shrubs like Hydrangea paniculata or Dwarf Korean Lilac, both of which add seasonal color, fragrance, and texture to the landscape while remaining low maintenance.
In front of the evergreen hedge, there’s space reserved for a ribbon of Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ or other colorful perennials of your choosing. This layer brings a soft, cottage-garden feel with pollinator friendly blooms that will shine throughout the growing season.
I have also carved out generous areas on either side of the front entry steps, perfect spots for statement container gardens. These can be refreshed seasonally with colorful annuals, sculptural foliage, or small evergreens to bring personality and curb appeal right to the doorstep.

Motor Courtyard
The motor courtyard is designed to feel like a private, tucked-away area functional yet refined. It’s enclosed with a dense planting of Thuja ‘Emerald Green’, providing year round screening from neighbors while creating a sense of quiet separation from the rest of the property.
To visually tie the space to the rest of the landscape, the entrance to the motor court mirrors the bridge design. Indiana limestone walls with caps, just like those at the front entry bridge, define the transition into this more private zone, signaling that you are entering a new, more secluded area of the property.
For the paving, the primary layout of concrete offers a clean, durable surface. However, I have also included an optional design if you are looking for a more classic, upscale feel. This alternate version features large-format paving slabs with decorative paver inlays, creating subtle visual texture and elevating the overall look of the courtyard while remaining timeless and easy to maintain.

Walkways & Steps
To ensure the home feels connected and easy to navigate, I designed a generous walkway that leads from the motor court to the back of the house. Along this route, two welcoming entry landings will be built at the back of the garage, one for each entry door, giving both functional access and a comfortable landing.
At the covered porch, I have designed a curved raised planter that gently brings the grade up closer to the finished floor elevation of the home. This not only softens the transition but also allows for a beautiful planting opportunity. We can mirror the planting palette from the front of the home for a unified look, or create something more whimsical, such as a large perennial garden designed to attract birds, butterflies, and other wildlife for a more natural, lively touch.
The curved shape of the raised planter also allows us to design a comfortable, sweeping set of steps down to the lower patio area. By taking advantage of the longer distance around the planter’s perimeter, the steps can be made more gradual and elegant, enhancing both usability and visual appeal.

Back Lower Patio
The back lower patio is designed as a clean, open space anchored by matching limestone walls that tie into the rest of the property’s natural materials. While primarily intended as a visual focal point and gathering spot, the patio can easily be furnished with comfortable seating and enhanced with elegant container gardens to create a welcoming outdoor room.
I have also incorporated space along the limestone wall for a water feature, adding soothing sound and a touch of movement to the serene backyard setting.
The patio size is carefully scaled not too large, but just right to complement your home’s proportions and provide a balanced outdoor area that feels spacious yet intimate.
